Hormone pellets are simply a way to put a precise amount of hormone into the body through a short procedure. These pellets are usually filled with bio-identical hormones such as Progesterone, Estradiol, and Testosterone. For men, they commonly include testosterone but for women, they may include all 3 or any combination.
What Is Progesterone?
Progesterone is also known as the Pregnancy Hormone, progesterone presents an important role in fertility and pregnancy. Produced by the ovaries, progesterone is referred to as the pregnancy hormone because it helps a woman’s body attain and maintain pregnancy.
Progesterone is a hormone that happens naturally in the body and it can also be formulated in a laboratory.
Progesterone Hormone Therapy
Progesterone is a member of a class of medications called progestins. If you’re having a problem getting pregnant, or if you’re undergoing fertility treatments, your doctor may suggest that you undergo progesterone hormone therapy.
Reasons to Undergo Therapy:
- Insufficient production of progesterone
- Low progesterone level
- To bring on menstruation
There are various forms of progesterone available, so discuss to your doctor about which form is best for you.
What Is Estradiol?
Estradiol is a form of estrogen, a female sex hormone that is produced by the ovary. Estradiol works by replacing the estrogen that our body generally produces. It comes in an oral form, a transdermal skin patch or as a topical gel.
Estradiol is used to help women experiencing menopausal. Estradiol gel is also used to manage itching, vaginal dryness and burning in menopausal women.
Estradiol is usually mixed with progestins in different doses in oral contraceptive pills that prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation. This medication may also be used to prevent osteoporosis and replenish estrogen in women with ovarian failure.
What Is Testosterone?
Testosterone is a male sex hormone that is responsible for the development of male sexual trait. Hormones are chemical carriers that trigger necessary changes in the body. Females also produce testosterone, but at lower levels than men. It is a kind of androgen produced by the testicles in cells called the Leydig cells.
In men, testosterone is thought to regulate a number of functions besides sperm production. These include:
- Bone mass
- Fat distribution
- Sex drive
- Red blood cell production
Without sufficient amounts of testosterone, men become infertile. This is because testosterone supports the development of mature sperm.
Low Testosterone Level
The level of your testosterone tends to decrease when getting older. Testosterone levels may vary depending on the time of day they’re measured, the levels of testosterone tend to be lower in the evening.
Symptoms of Low Testosterone:
- Depression, irritability, and inability to concentrate
- Bones becoming prone to fracture
- Erectile dysfunction or impotence
- Increased breast size
- Lowered sperm count
- Loss of muscle mass or hair
- Reduced sex drive
It is essential to take note that conditions other than low testosterone can cause erectile dysfunction, such as diseases in the nerves or blood.
High Testosterone Level
A woman with high testosterone level may experience an abnormal menstrual period, increases in body hair and a deepening of the voice. Woman with the polycystic ovarian syndrome possesses a high level of male hormones, including testosterone, which can cause infertility.
To determine if the patient has low or high testosterone, a doctor will conduct a blood test to measure the amount of the hormone in the patient’s blood. When doctors discover a low testosterone level, they may prescribe testosterone therapy for the patient and takes an artificial version of the hormone.
What Is Hormone Pellet Therapy?
Hormone pellet therapy is a newer method to provide hormones in both men and women’s body. This type of treatment is an alternative to taking the hormones orally or by a transdermal method.
Every procedure, therapy or medication comes with a list of possible benefits and side effects. You must weigh every detail to determine if the procedure is right for you.
How Does It Work?
Once the pellets are injected, a low dose of natural hormones flows directly into the bloodstream as the body needs it. Pellets can last from 3-6 months or longer.
